Thai authorities are intensifying their crackdown on electronic cigarettes, explicitly warning tourists about stricter consequences. According to government spokesperson Anukul Prueksaanurak, possessing a vape can now lead to charges of receiving contraband goods.
Tourists caught with e-cigarettes face severe penalties, including up to five years imprisonment and a hefty fine equivalent to four times the value of the seized items. This new enforcement measure adds to Thailand's existing stringent anti-vaping laws, in place since 2014, which already carried potential punishments of up to 10 years in prison or a 100,000 baht fine. Despite the long-standing ban, illicit sales reportedly still occur in some areas.
