Malaysia is considering a nationwide ban on the use and sale of e-cigarettes, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad announced at a press conference on Monday (July 28). He stated that a special committee will propose the full prohibition to address the growing issue of vape misuse.
Dzulkefly clarified that the current Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act 2024 (Act 852) regulates but does not ban e-cigarettes. While welcoming moves by six states, including Johor and Pahang, to halt vape sales licenses, he noted these actions are incomplete. A comprehensive assessment of legal, industrial, revenue, and licensing impacts is required, with discussions planned between the Health Ministry, Finance Ministry, Trade Ministries, and the Attorney General's Chambers.
